A wellbeing initiative that helps men thrive
The Men’s Health Advocate Training is an initiative delivered by ManHealth that trains men to become wellbeing advocates at work or in the community, giving men the space and support they need to get help.
Why is male wellbeing important in the workplace and our communities?
One in five British men die before the age of 65 due to largely preventable health problems and poor lifestyle choices due mainly to poor health literacy. Conditions such as such as heart disease and cancer of the bowel, lung or prostate. Mental health problems present just as high a risk with 75% of all deaths by suicide in the UK attributed to men. Suicide is the leading cause of death in men under 50.
Men often suffer in silence, ashamed to seek support, troubled by stigma and often frightened of receiving a diagnosis. Whether it’s through poor physical or mental health, men in the UK are suffering – which has its own cost:
- 70 million working days lost due to mental health problems
- 800,000 million workers self-report stress, anxiety or depression at work
- 39% of employers say male employees will wait until a health problem becomes severe before mentioning it to their line manager or team
- 1 man in 5 dying before the age of 65 due to largely preventable health conditions. This equates to 133 000 men dying early every year.
Make your business/community more compassionate with the Men’s Health Advocate Training
The Men’s Health Advocate Training is designed by ManHealth. This wellbeing initiative provides support for both mental and physical health in men from all walks of life.
We will train key employees/community leaders to become wellbeing ambassadors. They will achieve the Men’s Health Ambassador Certificate and will learn to run male friendly campaigns, have supportive conversations, signpost people to expert help and how to practice safeguarding.
